How to create an objective
If you haven’t reviewed our lessons on how to write a good objective, we recommend starting there. Once you’ve completed those lessons, let’s create an objective…
You can watch this 5-minute video or read through the article below.
Visit your Objectives Dashboard
Visit your objectives dashboard by clicking on the little Flag Icon on the left. Click on + New Objective
Add Name, Description, and Key Results
A new window will pop up. As a first step enter the name of the Objective. Be descriptive and use a title that describes what this objective is about. Optionally, you can add a description.
You should also add between one to five Key Results. Key Results make your objective measurable. If you are curious about how to write good Key Results and Objectives, check out this Help article. In short, each Key Result should be concrete and measurable.
Add Start and End Date
Next, add the Start and End Date. You can also select how often Rhabit will send you a check-in. A check in is a Card in your feedback card deck. You will be asked to report back if the project is on track, off track, or Ahead of Schedule. This will give the Stakeholders a heads-up and alert them if something is going wrong.
The Auto-Complete is used if an objective is time-limited. For example, maybe you have a quarterly goal. At the end of the quarter, the objective would be marked as complete.
Select Owner and Stakeholder
On the right side of the window, select the Owner of the Objective. The Owner is the person who does the work.
Next, select the Stakeholder. A stakeholder is a person who has an interest or stake in this objective. This is most often the manager of the owner but it could be anyone else on the company.
You can also connect this objective as a parent or child objective. A parent objective could be a project or initiative that this objective is a part of. You can search for other objectives by name. This can be done later if you don’t know the name of the parent or child objective.
Finish the process by clicking on Create Objective. That is it, your new objective should now show up in your dashboard if you are the Owner or Stakeholder of the objective.
If you are the owner, you will see this objective under My Objectives. If you are a stakeholder you will see it under Objectives I review.
